Right from our very first meeting I knew that Elle and Michael were planning a spectacular wedding on a large scale, in time-honoured tradition like many Greek weddings. But quite how big the wedding was going to be was not fully realised until our final meeting a few weeks before the big day. If Elle and Michael’s wedding can be summed up in one word it would be EPIC.
So it was with great expectations that the day began with Michael’s traditional grooms preparations, which included Michael being shaved by his best man (or koumbaro) and dressed by his groomsmen, accompanied by a traditional Greek bouzouki and fiddle duo. Next it was a short car ride on to Elle’s preparations followed by the bouzouki and fiddle team.
The ceremony was held at St Sophia in Bayswater, which is one of the oldest and biggest Greek churches in London. It was my first time shooting a wedding there and the interior of the church can quite simply be described as jaw-dropping, with it’s elaborate, ornate décor.
The reception was then held at the equally impressive Jumierah Carlton Towers in Knightsbridge. Along with the traditional Greek band was a full 12-piece showband, both of which provided the soundtrack to the spectacular celebration that was to follow.
Below is a small selection of the photos that were taken on the day conveying the key moments of this epic wedding.
